I am a trained Care of Elderly consultant (now retired) in NHS, South Wales, UK and developed interest in movement disorder & Parkinson's disease in late 1990's. I set up Parkinson's service in local hospital and parkinson's group in South Wales, UK. I managed over 700 patients with different stages of Parkison’s disease and Parkinson disease Dementia through three specialist clinics a week in two local acute hospitals (500 & 300 bedded units) before my retirement in June 2022. I have extensive experience in managing Parkinson’s disease in complex stages including Apo Morphine infusion therapy, Intrajejunal Duo Dopa therapy via PEJ and assessment, decision and referrals for DBS surgery in Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders. I managed and supervised two Parkinson Specialist Nurses and another consultant in PD clinic regularly till June 2022. Since retirement I continue to online consultations with patients in India and lecture about fraility & PD in medical workshops in India.

Frailty in Parkinson's Disease
Parkinson's disease in a progressive neurodegenerative disease largely affecting older adults. Older adults are more prone to multimorbidity and effect of Parkinson's disease can increase their risk of frailty and outcome of treatment as well as prognosis. During this presentation I will demonstrate literature evidence of this concept as well as case study of how frailty can be improved with advance therapy of Parkinson's disease. Concept of Frailty in Parkinson's disease needs further recognition and work to improve long term outcome of both conditions.
