Consultant Geriatrician, Te Matau a Maui, Hawke's Bay
I have been an SMO Geriatrician in Te Matau a Maui Hawke's Bay since 2022 with my inpatient clinical role in rehabilitation. My outpatient speciality interest is in falls, complex dizziness and syncope where I also lead a multiprofessional Falls MDT. I trained in Geriatric and General Medicine in the UK, NZ and Australia. My clinical and research interests have been in falls prevention with PhD awarded in 2005 from Newcastle University, involvement in multicentre falls prevention trials and leadership role for the Falls & Syncope Service in Newcastle upon Tyne. I have additional interests in Postgraduate Medical Education, with previous roles in the UK as deputy Director of Medical Education, Associate Dean for Health Education England (NE & N Cumbria) and as an elected member of Council for the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. I have been a course organiser for the Edinburgh International Course in Medicine for the Older Adult and a regular faculty member for the Dizziness for the Physician 2-day International Course. My move to New Zealand has enabled me to spend more time with my young family and pursuing my hobbies of cycling and mountain biking in the beautiful setting of Te Matau a Maui Hawke’s Bay.
